Join your senior colleagues on February 17th for the latest information, insights, interpretations and inspiration to help you weather the economic challenges being faced by nonprofits in Canada today.

Our panel of presenters and guest speakers, representing a diverse cross-section of organizations, will provide expertise, informed analysis and invaluable perspectives on surviving - and even thriving - in tough economic conditions. Representatives from organizations both large and small, urban and rural, profit and nonprofit will share their perspectives and "in the trenches" strategies to help your organization navigate safely through these turbulent times.

Be the first to hear the results of our survey which takes the pulse of fundraising organizations in Canada and provides us with an insightful look at the impact of the economic slowdown on fundraising plans and activities. Commissioned by Canadian FundRaiser and currently being conducted by Innovative Research Group, the survey asks charities across Canada how the recession has impacted their fundraising, and what decisions they are making about resource allocations as a result. The full results of the January '09 study, Impact of the Economic Downturn on the Not-for-profit Sector, will be available for all participants.

During this 'not to be missed' conference you will have the opportunity to learn from highly respected experts, network with other nonprofit professionals and develop a better understanding of:

  • How the current economic climate is impacting all aspects of nonprofit operations across Canada, but especially fundraising;
  • How foundations are responding in the face of reduced asset bases;
  • How - and when - leading economists see the economy recovering;
  • The actual results of large and small charity fundraising efforts in the last quarter of 2008 and early 2009;
  • What direct response specialists are doing to address the current challenge;
  • What differences in fundraising results are occurring between large and small Canadian communities;
  • What's happening in the major gifts area;
  • What role online fundraising will play going forward;
  • What's working, and what's not, when it comes to fund development and volunteer recruitment.

And, you'll leave with an extensive kit of current resources, tools, tips and inspiration to fuel your passion and guide your plans for the year ahead.

ForumPallotta.jpgYou'll hear Dan Pallotta, author of "Uncharitable: How Restraints on Nonprofits Undermine Their Potential", speak on the thesis explored in his book - that public expectations that charities be prudent, nonprofit and saintly simply makes them less effective. Stimulating and highly controversial, this presentation is guaran-teed to foster a rethink of how nonprofits should operate.

You'll also receive a complimentary copy of Dan's book - a combined value of $87.00!

Dan Pallotta is a leading expert on innovation in the nonprofit sector and a pioneering social entrepreneur. He is the founder of Pallotta TeamWorks, which invented the AIDSRides and Breast Cancer 3-Days and changed the fundamental paradigm for civic engagement in important social causes. 182,000 people participated in the events, which raised over half a billion dollars and netted $305 million in nine years - more money raised more quickly for these causes than any private event operation in history. The company had 350 full-time employees in 16 U.S. offices and was the subject of a Harvard Business School case study.  Its concepts and methods are employed by dozens of charities on a variety of events throughout the world - including the Weekend to End Breast Cancer events in Canada – to raise tens of millions of dollars each year. He is the author of “Uncharitable: How Restraints on Nonprofits Undermine Their Potential,” from Tufts University Press – a #1 bestseller in the charity category and #2 bestseller in social policy on Amazon. The New York Times has called it “powerful.” Former U.S. Senator Gary Hart has written that it is, “nothing less than a revolutionary work,” and that it should, “make us all take two steps back and imagine a new philosophy and theory of charity itself.”  Dan is a 1983 graduate of Harvard University. He is the recipient of the Liberty Hill Foundation Creative Vision award, the Triangle Humanitarian of the Year award, and the Albany State University International Citizen of the Year award. He lives in Los Angeles with his partner and their three children.
