Harvey
McKinnon is a Vancouver-based CFRE with 25 years experience
as a fundraiser. For a decade he worked with Oxfam Canada, and in 1989 he formed his own successful
direct mail fundraising company, specializing in direct
mail, monthly giving, planned giving, training, development
audits and direct response television. He has served a wide
range of nonprofits all over the world, among them The David
Suzuki Foundation, WGBH Boston, the Princess Margaret Hospital
Foundation, Union of Concerned Scientists, UNICEF Geneva,
Koala Rescue (Australia), many hospitals, international
development agencies, and social service organizations.
An
internationally recognized trainer, Harvey has taught fundraising
to thousands of groups across Canada, Australia, the U.S.A. and in Europe, Africa and Asia. He has won international awards
for his direct mail packages and is the author of Hidden Gold, the first and only book on monthly giving. Harvey has produced two best-selling training
videos and has hosted a six-part TV series on fundraising:
Friends for Life (with Ken Burnett). His
new training CD, How
the New Rich Give, has been widely praised.
His company has also created videos and direct response TV for nonprofits,
as well as television documentaries focusing on issues such as racism, AIDS, social justice, and
the environment. They have been
aired in dozens of countries around the world and have won
many international awards.
Harvey is a contributing editor
to Mal Warwick's Successful
Direct Mail, Telephone and Online Fundraising, a columnist
for Canadian FundRaiser,
and has written for numerous publications including the
Globe and Mail, the Toronto
Star, Donors,
and Fundraising Forum.
He has been active on a number of boards, including: Greenpeace Canada
Foundation, the Vancouver International Comedy Festival
and the U.S. based environmental
funder, the Brainerd Foundation, among others.
