M. Jasmine Sweatman, Contributing Editor

For over 10 years, Jasmine has practiced civil litigation. She has acted for clients in such matters as contract interpretations and disputes, shareholder disputes, bequest management, and estate litigation.

Jasmine has appeared before all levels of the Ontario court and the Supreme Court of Canada. She was co-counsel in the insurance action in the Walkerton tainted water matter. Building upon those experiences, Jasmine has created a day-long interactive seminar on Bequest Management and Estate Litigation for Charities and has developed an Estate Account Review ProgramTM for Charities.

Professional Activities:
Jasmine is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC), the Ontario Bar Association (OBA), The Advocate’s Society, and the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioner (STEP).

She has served many years on the executive of the Trusts & Estate section of the Ontario Bar Association and is presently its vice-chair. She also serves on the executive of the Charity & Not-For-Profit Law section of the Ontario Bar Association.

Jasmine is a frequent speaker and author who has contributed articles to the Estate, Trust and Pensions Journal, and has spoken at various Ontario Bar Association and Law Society of Upper Canada continuing education programs.

She is author of two books - Guide to Powers of Attorney (Canada Law Book, 2002), and Bequest Management for Charitable Organizations (Butterworths, 2003) which is endorsed by the Canadian Centre for Philanthrophy.

Community Involvement
Jasmine acts as editor of the quarterly newsletter The Advisor dedicated to allied professionals published by the Canadian Cancer Society (Ontario Division).

Jasmine is an active member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP*ACPDP). She has served for many years on the executive of the Greater Toronto Area RoundTable most latterly as chair (2002-2003). She also acted as member-at-large to the Conference Cabinet for the 11th Annual Conference of CAGP*ACPDP and is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Oakville.
